A Tradition of Art at Easter
At the Arae School this spring, children got to participate in a tradition widespread in the Western world: Easter egg coloring.
Eggs have been associated with spring, life, and rebirth since ancient times in many cultures. Today, children and adults decorate eggs in many different ways for Easter. This year Easter falls on April 20, but we celebrated it along with the cherry blossoms.

On March 29, we decorated hard-boiled eggs in liquid food coloring to make an array of designs. Children experimented with mixing colors, adding oil, and marking with crayons.

Students at the Arae School, in Rainbow Club, and in online lessons, from as far away as Higashi Ward and Shingu, came for the event.
Former student and current art major at Kyushu Sangyo University, Yuha, helped the children with their creative designs.

The eggs were hot to enable the colors to fix more vividly. Handling real eggs proved tricky, with some rolling around and falling off the table! No worries, however, as we colored over 100 eggs in total. Plenty for the Easter egg hunt the following day!
